The Surftest SJ-410 surface roughness measuring instrument offers numerous innovative features to provide smoother operation and more accurate measurements in an easy-to-use, portable unit with a high straightness specification of 0.3 - 0.5µm over a traverse length of 25 - 50mm. The Surftest SJ-410 surface roughness measuring instrument provides both skidded and skidless measurements. The SJ-410 surface roughness measuring instrument is equipped with 46 roughness parameters that conform to the latest ISO, DIN, ANSI and JIS standards. The unit's high-resolution detector and drive unit provide a wide range of highly accurate measurements and ultra-fine steps. Using the unit's skidless measurement and curved compensation functions, straightness, waviness and evaluation of cylinder surface roughness can be easily measured and evaluated.
A wide-range, high-resolution detector and a very accurate drive unit provide superior high-accuracy measurement in its class:
Detector
- Measuring range: 800 µm
- Resolution: 0.0001 µm (when the measuring range is 8 µm)
Drive unit
- Straightness/Drive length: 0.3 µm/25 mm (178-581-11/12)
- Straightness/Drive length: 0.5 µm/50 mm (178-583-11/12)
User Friendly, High-Functionality Display Unit with Integrated Printer
The large 5.7-inch color graphic touch-screen LCD provides excellent readability. Furthermore, selecting icons from the touch panel display provides intuitive and easy operation. The integrated high-speed printer offers the user the ability to perform the entire measuring and printing process with the push of a button.
The High-Speed Printer provides BAC and ADC curves that can be printed in addition to calculation results (including pass/fail results) and assessed profiles. The printer offers an easy-to-understand layout and can also print horizontally to match the content displayed on the LCD. Furthermore, the printing speed is approximately 50% faster than conventional models.
Measure Spherical or Cylindrical Surface Roughness
Usually, a spherical or cylindrical surface (R-surface) cannot be evaluated but, by removing the radius with a filter, R-surface data is processed as if taken from a flat surface. Other curved surfaces can be processed such as parabolical and ellipsoidal.
Narrow-part measurement function
Surface roughness measurement requires a run-up distance before starting the measurement (or retrieving data). When the SJ-410 Series measures, its run-up distance is normally set to 0.5 mm. However, this distance can be shortened to 0.15 mm using the narrow-part measurement function. This function extends the measurement of narrow locations to features such as piston-ring grooves and O-ring grooves.
Simple Contour Analysis Function
Point group data collected for surface roughness evaluation is used to perform simplified contour analysis (step, step height, area and coordinate difference). It assesses minute forms that cannot be assessed by a regular contour measuring machine.
Choice of skidless or skidded measurement
Skidless measurement
Skidless measurement is where surface features are measured relative to the drive unit reference surface. This measures waviness and finely stepped features accurately, in addition to surface roughness, where range is limited to the stylus travel available.
Skidded measurement
In skidded measurements, surface features are measured with reference to a skid following close behind the stylus. This cannot measure waviness and stepped features exactly, but the range of movement within the measurement made is greater because the skid tracks the workpiece surface contour.
Wireless and Quick Capture Measurements on PC (Requires Optional Accessories)
- Wireless Input with U-Wave - This unit allows you to remotely load Surftest SJ-410 calculation results (SPC output) into commercial spreadsheet software on a PC. You can essentially use a one-touch operation to enter the calculation results (values) into the cells in the spreadsheet software.
- One-Touch Input with USB Input Tool - This unit allows you to load Surftest SJ-410 calculation results (SPC output) into commercial spreadsheet software on a PC via a USB connector. You can essentially use a one-touch operation to enter the calculation results (values) into the cells in the spreadsheet software.
