Many electronic devices and most RF equipment require a reliable frequency source. The short-term stability of these frequency sources can be assessed using phase noise. Siglent's SSA5000A Spectrum analyzers have now introduced a simple one-button phase noise measurement feature. The SSA5000A is designed with lower Display Average Noise Level (DANL) and phase noise, which enhances the precision of your tests. By using a smaller resolution bandwidth, it avoids measuring the carrier power and noise power simultaneously, and the results are calculated and graphed. The horizontal coordinate employs a logarithmic scale, providing a broader frequency range and finer resolution near the carrier. This means that smaller offsets often give a better indication of signal quality than phase noise at larger frequency offsets.
