History

It all started in 1955...
...with Founder Ben Weiss, who was involved in a 63-year-old mail order dental company warehousing and distributing various types of dental materials and instruments. By 1958, with the computer/electronics industry in its infancy, calls started to come in from industrial companies requesting certain types of dental instruments. Examples include fine cutting pliers, wire holders and tweezers.

Many of these items were unavailable anywhere else and were readily adaptable from the dental field to the electronics manufacturing industry. Techni-Tool, Inc., was one of the first companies in the country to supply these types of items to the industry. Having answered the local needs of companies like General Electric, RCA, IRC and Burroughs, the thought was to promote a number of products nationally.

A four-page, black-and-white sheet was printed featuring 20 carefully selected items. A list of names was purchased and the sheet then mailed. It was reasonably successful. The next step was to find more items to add to the product line. While 90% of our products are made in the U.S., our search for unique, quality products reaches many countries.

In 1960 Techni-Tool was incorporated and separated from the dental company entirely, though for many years they shared the same facility. Through the years Techni-Tool, Inc., has promoted sales through a catalog as well as a direct sales force. Our philosophy continues to be to expand our products and catalog circulation while providing our customers with on-time delivery of quality items.
