Digilent ADP3450 Analog Discovery Pro

Instruments in the Analog Discovery Pro 3000 series combine the functionality of professional benchtop tools with the convenience of a handheld device. The market is flooded with options for test and measurement instruments, making it challenging to expand your benchtop, particularly when distinguishing between included features and those that come at an additional cost. However, the ADP3450 offers access to up to 13 devices through Digilent's WaveForms software, ensuring it's a long-term investment - all at a transparent price.

Included with this version of the ADP3450 Analog Discovery Pro are P2150 BNC Oscilloscope Probes. The P2150 offers the best signal integrity and highest available bandwidth for connecting an oscilloscope to a circuit under test. Its input attenuation is a selectable 1X/10X with a bandwidth of 150MHz. In addition, it comes with several components to ensure reliable and accurate measurements.

Analog Discovery Pro - 3000 Series Overview

The Analog Discovery Pro devices, ADP3450 and ADP3250, are the latest additions to the Analog Discovery line. They enhance the functionalities of the analog and digital instruments from the globally recognized Analog Discovery to cater to the increasing demand for professional-grade home electronics test benches. Each device is equipped with a high-resolution oscilloscope that has either four or two channels and offers a 14-bit resolution at a speed of up to 0.5 GS/s.

To keep pace with the digital revolution, the Analog Discovery Pro is designed as a true mixed signal oscilloscope with 16 dedicated digital channels. It comes with a digital power supply, digital outputs, a two-channel arbitrary waveform generator, and two dedicated external triggers, making it a comprehensive package of up to 13 instruments. These instruments are ready to analyze mixed signal systems through WaveForms, our free software.

Engineers, whether working from home or in a lab, are often tasked with designing and validating complex systems within a short design cycle time. The Analog Discovery Pro, with its flexible test equipment capable of research, validation, and testing, aids engineers in speeding up this process. Apart from the up to 13 built-in instruments that WaveForms enables, the Analog Discovery Pro introduces Linux Mode.

Linux Mode offers an on-device terminal-based operating system that, when used in conjunction with WaveForms SDK, serves as a versatile platform for a wide range of custom tests and applications. Whether embedded on the device or run via WaveForms, Linux Mode allows engineers and measurement enthusiasts to benefit from data streaming through ethernet and on-device storage capable of capturing buffers of millions of samples.

The Analog Discovery Pro, whether in Linux Mode with WaveForms SDK or in Standard Mode connected via WaveForms, boasts a range of advanced triggering options. For instance, instruments within WaveForms can be cross-triggered, such as activating an oscilloscope capture based on a received and decoded digital protocol. External signals can also trigger events using the two dedicated external trigger inputs located at the back of the device. WaveForms offers these features configurable within the instruments themselves, or for more control or automation, they can be accessed through one of the available scripting interfaces.

NOTE: TL;DR: high-res, giga-sample speed, mega sample memory depth, mixed signal analysis, advanced triggers, and customizability - all included in a device smaller than a laptop.

What is WaveForms Software?

WaveForms, a complimentary software application for the ADP3450 and ADP3250, facilitates the utilization of available analog and digital instruments. Over a decade of customer feedback has honed the software, resulting in a user interface that is compatible with both computers and laptops and mirrors the feel of conventional benchtop software. WaveForms communicates with the device via a USB or ethernet connection to your computer, empowering users to capture, record, analyze, and generate mixed signal and mixed domain waveforms. The software can be downloaded, installed, and tested without hardware in less than a minute using its demo mode feature. Beyond the application's instrument use, WaveForms includes a script editor tool for custom instrument scripting in JavaScript. WaveForms is engineered to operate on a laptop or desktop computer and is compatible with Mac, Windows, and Linux.

For even more customization potential, the WaveForms Software Development Kit (SDK) can be used to create custom applications and scripts in Python, C and additional languages. The ADP3450 and ADP3250 are also compatible with LabVIEW and the Digilent Toolbox for compatibility with MathWorks' MATLAB Data Acquistion Toolbox.
